Welcome to my homepage.
I am now in my 15th year at ECCA - six as a science teacher, and now nine as the school principal. I feel proud and honored to have been a part of ECCA during the initial years when the philosophy of the school was being tested, formulated, and fine-tuned. I love my job as the ECCA principal and the challenges it offers, and still look forward to the privilege of being around students and teaching from time to time in the K-8 classrooms. ECCA truly is an amazing place to work.
My goals for ECCA are numerous, but first and foremost is hiring the best teachers such that we can achieve Adequate Yearly Progress (more than one year of growth in one year of time) for every student. I also spend a fair amount of time reseaching best teaching practices, analyzing student data, and I expect the same of my teachers. With our small classroom size, strong parent involvement, and emphasis on teacher empowerment, we have been very fortunate to have always been named as a John Irwin School of Excellence over the ten past years.
I am also excited about the $2M that was recently allocated to ECCA from the Eagle County School District for a common room/gymnasium. Through other local, state, and federal grant opportunities, many on the ECCA Board of directors, including myself, are trying to parlay this generous financial start into a full campus for all of our student community. It certainly is an exciting time to be at ECCA!
Rather than rest on our past successes, I feel that it is critically important to continuously reflect on our school methods to insure that each and every student is pushed to perform at their best level. 2008-09 initiatives such as Golden Time, FAST, flooding tutors, etc.. were put in place to ensure that our high level of success continues. 2009-10 changes include a slightly longer school day, PE classes for middle school, more time in core classes, and two 5-8 "ladder" positions for extra Language Arts and Spanish instruction. Ultimately, I am trying to create the best educational opportunity for the 300 students we are privileged to serve at ECCA.
My door is always open. I value your feedback and input. Please feel free to stop by and visit.
